Fifteen-year-old MIGUEL is preparing for the most dangerous journey of his life—leaving his home in Chiapas, Mexico, to reunite with his parents in California after six years apart. But his plans are thrown into chaos when his younger sister, ELENA, secretly joins him, unwilling to be left behind. With only enough money for food and the human traffickers, Miguel must now protect Elena as they navigate the perilous journey aboard La Bestia, the infamous migrant train.
Along the way, they encounter JAVI, a Salvadoran father traveling alone in hopes of reuniting with his family, and the mythical ghost LA LLORONA, whose mournful cries symbolize the fears and sacrifices of all migrants. As Miguel and Elena journey through Mexico, they are forced to confront the harsh realities of their dream while holding on to hope for a better future.
